American Opera Legend           Beverly Sills

American colaratura soprano Beverly Sills was born in New York. One of her parents was from Ukraine. In 1947 she made her operatic debut as Frascuite from opera "Carmen" with Philadelphia Opera.

In 1951 Beverly sang Violetta from "Traviata", in 1952 Micaella from "Carmen". In 1953 she made her debut at the stage of San Francisco Opera in opera "Mefestofele" by Boito,and  Donna Elvira "Don Giovanni".In 1955 she first appeared at the stage of the New York city opera - Rosalinde "Die Fledermaus" by Johann Strauss. In 1960 Beverly Sills sang Manon ( opera "Manon" by Massenet) with Boston Opera. She also performed at the stage of Met as Donna Anna " Don Giovanni", Anna Bolena, Lucia di Lammwemoor, and also in opera Don Pasquale.

She also had many concerts. She was a general director of NYCO. From 1994 until 2002 Sills was chairman of Lincoln Center. From 2002 until 2005 Beverly Sills was chairman of Met. She passed away in 2007.
